I am interested in conducting interdisciplinary research on the various ways in which translation impacts and shapes cross-cultural communication. One of my main research areas lies at the intersection of critical discourse analysis and corpus-based translation studies: I draw on corpus data and tools of analysis to explore the discursive patterning of translated text, and on critical discourse analysis as a source of theoretical insight to analyse the extent to which such patterns consolidate or undermine certain discourses and reproduce or deconstruct existing power structures in the target society. My second main research area is multilingualism in audiovisual translation and streaming, which has implications for how the linguistic inequalities and hierarchies that dominate Eurocentric and Anglophone-led global media systems are reflected or reconfigured.
